Detox (removal of drink- and drug related toxins)
Before we can offer you a clinical or outpatient daily treatment programme, your whole body needs to be free of alcohol and/or drug toxins. You may need to detoxify your body to rid it of alcohol, medicines or drugs. This can take from 1 up to 3 weeks, depending on the substance involved. An expert medical team of addiction clinicians and specialist nurses are available 24 hours a day to provide support during this process. If necessary, a doctor will prescribe medications to minimise withdrawal symptoms.
WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOMS THAT MAY OCCUR DURING DETOXIFICATION:
- Muscle aches
- Disrupted metabolism
- Stomach cramps and diarrhoea
- Heart palpitations
ADMISSION TO THE DETOX-FACILITY
The need for clinical detoxification is determined on the basis of diagnosis and somatic assessment provided by our psychiatrist and/or addiction clinician. The extent and duration of the stay in clinical detox depends entirely on the severity of your addiction, the (combined) use of substances and how long you have been using these substances on a continuous basis. Admission to absolute clinical detoxification is usually done within 7 to 10 days after diagnosis and somatic assessment.
Admission for clinical detoxification can be at our English clinic: Broadway Lodge as well as at one of our partnering clinics such as Novadic Kentron at Vught.
